Rivers
We can group the rivers of
Spain into three different watersheds.
Each river has a drainage basin
- Includes the main river
and tributaries
The Cantabrian watershed
Rivers are short with a regular flow. They flow down steep terrain.
The
Atlantic Watershed
Rivers
are long. Carry a lot of water but have irregular flow
- Miño
- Duero
- Tagus
- Guadiana
- Guadalquivir
The
Mediterranean Watershed
Rivers
are short (exept for the Ebro). Don´t carry much water and have irregular
flow
- LLogrebat
- Ebro
- Mijares
- Turia
- Júcar
- Segura
The Balearic and Canary Islands don´t have any permanent rivers
- short streams and torrents
- only carry water after
heavy rains
Lakes
Lakes in Spain
tend to be small and not very deep. The most important is the Lake Sanabria.
We can also find lagoons
- Smaller and shallower than lakes
- Often dry out in the
summer
Wetlands
Lands covered by shallow
waters. Marshes of the
Guadalquivir.
